Job Description

Careerscape has teamed up with a fast-growing SaaS organization to fill a Junior Product Designer opening on their distributed U.S. product team. The position is built for designers in the early stages of their career who want to develop a full product design skillset — covering discovery, user experience, interface work, and shipping live features — inside an environment that prioritizes mentorship and a defined growth path.

This is a fully remote opportunity open to candidates based anywhere in the United States. Applicants should have a portfolio that demonstrates problem-solving and process, comfort working in Figma, and genuine curiosity about how digital products are designed, tested, and iterated.

The selected designer will collaborate with seasoned product designers, product managers, and engineers on features that reach real users from day one. Rather than being thrown into the deep end, the role includes structured onboarding, recurring design critiques, a dedicated senior mentor, and visibility into how each phase of the product cycle comes together.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to feature design from concept through delivery under the guidance of senior designers, producing wireframes, mockups, and developer-ready files
  • Work alongside product managers and engineers to define requirements, refine scope, and ship measurable improvements to the product
  • Build interactive Figma prototypes that allow teams to validate ideas and pressure-test flows ahead of engineering effort
  • Participate in user research activities by helping run sessions, capturing observations, and translating findings into design directions
  • Extend and maintain the company's design system, including building components, documenting patterns, and supporting consistency across the product
  • Share work in design critiques, advocate for user needs, and apply feedback from cross-functional partners
  • Stay engaged through engineering implementation and quality assurance, surfacing visual or interaction issues during build
  • Apply analytics signals and customer feedback to evaluate shipped work and identify opportunities for refinement
  • Keep a pulse on industry developments, accessibility standards, and modern AI-assisted design workflows

Requirements

  • 0–2 years of professional design experience, including internships, freelance projects, bootcamp coursework, or substantial personal work
  • A portfolio that walks through the problem, the design process, and the outcome — not only finished visuals
  • Working knowledge of Figma, including auto-layout, components, variants, and prototyping
  • Foundational understanding of UX principles such as information architecture, interaction patterns, usability heuristics, and accessibility (WCAG basics)
  • Interest in user research and willingness to engage directly with customers
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain design rationale to non-designers
  • Self-directed work habits suited to a remote, distributed team environment
  • A reliable home internet connection and a quiet workspace dedicated to focused design work
  • A formal degree is not required — a strong portfolio carries equal or greater weight

Benefits

  • Competitive annual salary with performance bonus eligibility (up to 10%) and stock option grants for qualifying hires
  • 100% remote work model with flexible hours across U.S. time zones
  • Full medical, dental, and vision coverage — employee premiums covered at 100%
  • 22 days of paid time off, plus paid sick leave and 12 observed holidays
  • 401(k) retirement plan with employer match after one year of tenure
  • $2,000 annual stipend for professional development, including courses, conferences, and certifications
  • $2,000 home office setup allowance plus recurring internet and phone reimbursement
  • $1,200 yearly wellness budget covering gym memberships, therapy, mindfulness apps, and similar
  • Company-provided laptop and licensed design software
  • Paid parental leave and mental health resources
  • Documented advancement track from Junior Product Designer to Product Designer, Senior, and Staff
  • Annual in-person team gathering and quarterly virtual team activities
  • Pairing with a senior design mentor starting in the first week
