A nationally recognized hospital in Kansas City with more than 585 beds is seeking an experienced Operating Room Registered Nurse to join its surgical services team. This advanced medical center is home to a Level I Trauma Center, Primary Stroke Center, Chest Pain Center, Breast Care Center, and a wide range of specialized clinical services.
The Operating Room RN is an essential part of the surgical team, partnering with surgeons, surgical technologists, anesthesia providers, and other healthcare professionals to deliver safe, high-quality patient care throughout the surgical experience.
Responsibilities begin before surgery by assessing patients, educating patients and their families about the upcoming procedure, and preparing patients for the operating room. This includes administering preoperative medications, initiating IV therapy, and confirming surgical site verification.
During surgery, the nurse actively participates in surgical safety protocols, including pre-procedure briefings, time outs, debriefings, and universal protocol processes. The role requires strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and the ability to closely monitor patients while responding quickly and effectively to changes in condition or emergency situations. Scheduling is self-managed and posted four weeks in advance, with on-call coverage required during designated non-business hours.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 1 year of recent Operating Room RN experience with scrub and circulating responsibilities
Graduate of an accredited Registered Nurse program
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license
Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification required within 30 days of employment
Schedule:
Full-time
Day shift: 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. or
Night shift: 7:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.
